Microsoft continues to pour out firmware updates for its Surface devices, with the latest being delivered to the popular Surface Pro 7 laptop. The update was released on September 19 and comes with a bundle of new features including general stability, performance, security, and feature enhancements, according to the official release notes published by Microsoft. 

How to get the update

The rollout of updates will happen in stages. That means not every Surface will receive the update at the same time.

Now, Microsoft is rolling out the October 2021 firmware update that includes a plethora of fixes for bugs and improvements. The company has also rolled out an update for the Surface Pro 7 tablet, and you can get the changelog details here:

Firmware updates Important Notes:

  • Updates to the firmware can’t be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version.
  • The new Surface update will give you all previous updates if your Surface doesn’t have them already.
  • After installing the updates, restart your device to complete the installation process. To restart your computer, click the Start button, and then select Power > Restart.

For Surface Pro 7 owners

If you own a Surface Pro 7, your October 2021 firmware update aims to improve battery life as well as wireless connections such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The new update also brings device-specific patches to fix a security-critical vulnerability, ensuring that your device is protected from malicious attacks. Check out the changelog below:

If you own a Surface Pro 7 or Surface Pro 8, you should check out the October 2021 updates. The list of improvements includes an update to the CPU and some changes to the UI.

For second-generation Surface Studio Owners

The Surface Studio 2 comes with a very fresh take on the desktop PC. It’s still powered by Windows 10 but has been designed for creators. If you have a Surface Studio 2, Microsoft has released a new firmware update. This one includes a display driver update for Nvidia graphics cards, and there are separate display driver versions for both GPU variants.
